The Trees A Collection eBook Todd Brabander
This short story collection was very well done. I liked all the tales except First Date, which seemed incomplete and rather pointless. Each of the others was well written and many had an interesting twist or two that gave them depth. A clever collection that is perfect to read while waiting for something....in line at the grocery store, at the doctor's office, sitting in the car while waiting to pick someone up. I highly recommend it!Product details

The Trees A Collection eBook Todd Brabander Reviews
This book contained 5 short stories. I received an e-book through a member giveaways program in exchange for a review. I read this in just 2 sittings-I started late at night so I just read the first three stories and finished the other 2 the next morning. These stories were all so different and some were a little quirky. The only thing that bothered me just slightly was that there were some places in a couple of the stories that seemed a little jumpy and changed quite unexpectedly. Overall I enjoyed this quick read and my favorite story was The Trees which had a twist at the end that I didn't see coming.
This short story collection has a couple good ones and the reminder are a bit of meh.
Larouche This was creepy and spooky and set the undertones very well.
Happiness is a Dead Ladybug A bit endearing but a little on the short side. I felt there was more to work with and that this could really have been a nice existential piece- but it fell short.
Sheltered This was one that worked well for me as I tend to like post-apocalyptic stuff. It wasn't overly original but done well enough for enjoyment.
The Tree The premise was good but the story as a whole was confusing. I wish there has been a little more meat to it.
The first Date This was not the right way to end - specifically because it seemed very incomplete. I not quite sure what it was even about.
All in all I give it an average of 3 stars. The author has potential but its not been really tapped very well.
Note This was received through LibraryThings Member Giveaways in exchange for a review.

Living in the Pacific Northwest it was a treat to find this book and also have my curiosity for it wet already being as I'm originally from the east coast and some things here are every bit as intriguing as they were five years ago when I first moved here. It's amazing how sometimes you just realize you haven't gotten out of your home after moving as much as you thought you had. But with the little rant on the side I have to carry on with my work.
The Trees is a collection of short stories each one was compelling but, one or two lacked the connection I felt that the others held in the book. I wished some were more elaborated upon I felt some were lacking in detail but others were very well written and achieved what I felt was the desired affect they were going for shock, horror, and a little surprise.
Larouche A very nice short story about the town of Astoria, the characters were intriguing and I felt that if the author had taken the time it would have and could have been stretched into a novel all it's own, it shows the potential of the writer and what he is very capable of accomplishing even sending a few chills up my spine and creating a curiosity for the unknown.
Happiness is a Dead Ladybug Emotional pull of a story that leaves you feeling empty just as the Robot does later. It could have had more depth and filler but I felt that it was just as it should be perfectly empty it also has a moment of tension build up that has you thinking something more might just happen.
Sheltered This was a wonderful tale, the horrible thought that the children had been held captive in a cellar and that the world around them was going through a post apocalyptic uproar was intriguing only to later have it found out that their grandfather was a crazy old man that had lied to them all their lives even as far as having the granddaughter still stuck with a bit of Stockholm syndrome.
The Tree This was a wonderful story even like the character I found myself believing in the innocence and helpfulness of all the other trees and that one shouldn't always trust what one is told...
The first Date This one left me a little baffled I wasn't sure where it fit in and it's ending had me a little lost with the time I took to flip back and read it again I have to admit I am not sure where this one comes into play but if we were to be left curious and a little confused it worked.
I always enjoy short tales before bed. These are perfect except that I enjoyed the first one so much, I finished them all in one night.
Man, I just have to say they I really love this Author! His stories are always strange and different, and he always writes what no one else is writing. This collection was unique. Just one gripe....please write faster!
I loved this collection...I especially loved the 'the Trees' and the one about the time machine. Honestly the last story confused me a little..all of them made me really think though....we all need that!
Interesting mix of short tales, the lead one "Laroche" about a doomed pirate ship and it's cursed occupant being my favorite. Links from the table of contents allow you to read them in any order of your choosing, give them a try!
This was one of some three dozen novellas I found entertaining while on our week long summer vacation thru Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky that I will be reviewing in roughly alphabetical order.
This short story collection was very well done. I liked all the tales except First Date, which seemed incomplete and rather pointless.
